Paul “Bud” Haedike is a World War II veteran who flew 23 missions as a bombardier on a B-17 Flying Fortress.  His bomber was named the E-RAT-ICATOR.  As the new guys and on their first mission, their position in the formation was the most dangerous because they were flying low and were the last of the formation over the target.  It was called “Tail End Charlie.” Bud and his crew were shot down but fortunately crashed landed in friendly territory.  Bud recalled,  “It’s kind of like in life, you’ve kind of got to earn your way.”

Bud went on to fly many more missions.  Tonight, Bud will share his story with our kids (and adults too).  Please note:  Bud’s story is about war, bombing raids in Germany, and loss of friends.  The recommended age is 8th grade through high school.  Bud’s story has been chronicled in the HBO documentary “THE COLD BLUE.”  The DVD is available in our gift shop.

Bud will share his exciting story with our museum guests.  The event is free, donations are appreciated.

Attendance is limited to 25 total.  Registration is required.
