Tonight, the museum is illuminated in purple to honor our servicemen wounded or killed in action while serving our country. Purple Heart Day, observed on August 7th, is a time for Americans to pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who were either wounded on the battlefield or paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Created by George Washington, the Purple Heart is the nation’s oldest military award. The award acknowledges the physical sacrifice of our soldiers to our nation. An estimated 1.8 million Purple Hearts have been awarded to U.S. troops. Thank You to those who have sacrificed so much. God Bless Our Veterans
