John Allen

John Allen was born in June 1894 in Bolivar Tennessee.  His parents were Wash and Molly Allen.  The family later lived in St. Charles MO.  On his draft registration his occupation is listed as a laborer.  For his day of birth, he writes, “Don’t know.”  He entered the service 1-AUG 1918.  He was a Private in the Headquarters Company 814th Pioneer Infantry Regiment.  Pioneer infantry regiments were formed during the World War I Era to serve as road maintenance troops but were often used as labor for anything that needed to be accomplished. John went overseas 6-SEP 1918.  He was discharged 1-JAN 1919.
