Carl Lewis Grumke was born 12-APR-1918 in Augusta MO. His father was Gustave J. Grumke (1883-1961) and his mother was Anna Louise Vogelpohl (1878-1968). He had four sisters; Nelda, Ema, Olivia, Lucinda and three brothers; Virgil, Oscar and Arnold. Carl attended St Charles High School. He lived at 1523 Gallagher Ave in St Charles. Carl was employed by St. Mary Engine Oil Company. He was inducted into the Army 1-APR 1942 and was a Private in the 22nd Armored Field Artillery.

Carl Lewis Grumke died 13-OCT 1942. The Marthasville Newspaper reported: “killed in car accident in Tennessee.” Carl had joined his battery in Tennessee on 10-OCT for maneuvers. The Warrenton Banner reported: “he was killed instantly in Murfreesboro Tennessee in a car accident.” Carl is buried at Saint John United Church of Christ Cemetery also known as Saint John’s Cemetery.
