Haferkamp, Fritz W.

Died While Serving 10-OCT 1918

Fritz W. Haferkamp was born 7-OCT-1887 in Augusta MO.  His parents were Herman and Kate Haferkamp.  It is believed he preferred the name “Fred”.  He had four siblings; Henry, Fred, Otto and Lena.  He worked as a laborer at the quarry in Klondike MO.  He was drafted in October 1917.  He had just bought a farm not long before. He departed New York on the 

Troop ship Olympic for Europe on 9-AUG-1918.  He was in B Company 354 

Infantry. He died 10-OCT-1918.  The St. Louis Post-Dispatch and the Evening Missourian reported on 13-DEC 1918 that he died in France of pneumonia and the Spanish Influenza.  Haferkamp is buried in Augusta City Cemetery in St Charles County.
