Betty A. Washburn was lived on a farm in Lynchburg, Missouri. She enlisted in the Womens Army Corps at the age of nineteen to see the world and become a nurse.  After training in Fort Lee Virginia and in Texas, Betty boarded a ship for Southeast Asia.
