Walter Benjamin Herzog was born 12-AUG 1895. His parents were George L. Herzog and Mary P. Herzog (1855-1910). He had two brothers; George and Henry and four sisters; Cundy, Lissetta and Cathrina. He entered the service 29-APR 1918. He was a PVT in Company C, 29th Field Artillery. According to records, Walter Herzog died of disease on 14- SEP 1918 at 5:15 AM at Camp Funston. Herzog’s funeral was at St. Charles Borromeo Church in St. Charles and he is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
