On 26-DEC 1941, Jack was at Fort Knox Kentucky.  In March 1942 he was listed as a Private.  He then went to Fort Benning Georgia.  By June 1942 he was a T5 Sergeant and in October 1942 Jack was at Camp Picket in Virginia.  Jack was rated an Expert in Rifle and 81 mm mortar and was rated a 2nd class gunner.  On 22-SEP 1942, he was certified “proficient to drive cars and halftracks.” 

Jack and the 15th Infantry and the 3d Infantry Division sailed from Norfolk, Virginia, bound for French Morocco during Operation Torch.
