William McKinley Kemp
William McKinley Kemp was born 11-APR 1897 in McKittrick MO. McKittrick is a city in Montgomery County, Missouri. His parents were Richard and Mary Pannell Kemp. According to the 1910 census, he lived with his parents and two sisters on Locust Street in St. Charles. William registered for the World War I draft in 1917. At that time he lived on Clark Street in St. Charles MO.
He entered the service 27-SEP 1918. He served in the U,S.Army 65th Infantry Regiment as a Corporal. The 65th Pioneer Infantry was mostly a Puerto Rican regiment. It was likely he was sent to Panama in defense of the Panama Canal Zone. Pioneer regiments were for the most part, laborers on construction projects. William was discharged 7-DEC 1919. According to the 1920 census, he lived in St. Charles on Clark Street with his parents. His occupation was listed as laborer in a car shop.
The 1930 census states William lived on Washington Street in St. Charles with his wife Clara Pannell Kemp and three sons and two daughters. His occupation was plasterer in building construction.
William McKinley Kemp died 19-FEB 1932 and is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Charles MO.
