Philip H. King was born 16-OCT 1921 in Alabama.  His father was Henry Owen King (1886–1952) and his mother was Alice Bryan (1889–1973). Philip had three siblings: One brother: Gordan (Clarence) and two sisters: Sarah Owen and Francis B.  Editor’s note: His brother Gordon would later serve in the US Air Force and attain the rank of Colonel.

Philip attended Central High School in Jackson Mississippi.  Alongside his yearbook picture, his byline states, “He was a lion among ladies.”  Philip enlisted in the Marine Corps on 15-JAN 1942. Donald would serve stateside in World War II and in country during the Korean War.

Philip would attend Officer Candidate School for the Marines.  Though he was stateside for WWII, he was involved in some of the most horrific action in Korea.
