Harry R. Klaus birth date is unknown. His father was William Klaus. His mother was Mary Elizabeth Wiltman Klaus. He had 4 brothers; William, Antone, Arthur and August. He had one sister; Dora. Harry and his family are originally from Salisbury Missouri, north and west of Columbia. Harry attended the University of Missouri at Columbia.

Harry enlisted in the Army Air Forces and served during World War II. He attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He served with 313rd Troop Carrier Group, 48th Squadron. Harry was a troop transport pilot, when he was killed in a crash over England on 5-Jan 1945. He was awarded an Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters. Harry R. Klaus is buried or memorialized at Plot D Row 4 Grave 101, Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, England. This is an American Battle Monuments Commission location.
