Calvin joined the Army 12-JUL 1943 at Jefferson Barracks.  It is recorded that he had three years of high school.  Calvin was drafted and served in the 345th Infantry Regiment, 87th Division.  The division was known as the “Golden Acorn Division.”  He received a Purple Heart for injuries suffered during action at the Battle of the Bulge.
