Daniel Rattner was born in 1944. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served from August 1965 until August 1969. His final rank was Yeoman 2nd Class. He trained in San Francisco CA, Charlevoix MI and Gronton CT.  

He was stationed in the Pacific, and Honolulu Hawaii. He served on USCGC Ponchertrain and USCGC Chautauqua. His ship served as a homing beacon for planes in the middle of the ocean Ocean Station Victor. In Hawaii, he served helping to run background checks for the Merchant Marine.
