John joined the Army in 1987 and would serve four years active duty. He was in the 1st Squadron of the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment VII Corp. They are also known as the 2nd Dragoons. (Editor’s note: Dragoons mounted infantry, who used horses for mobility, but dismounted to fight on foot. Their motto is “Toujours Pret” (Always Ready).
John’s units was highly decorated and were the first ground troops to enter Iraq during Desert Storm in 1991.
