Robert Shaner

Robert (Bob) Shaner, son of Elmer and Odette Shaner, grew up as an Army “brat” from his birth at March Air Force Base, Riverside California to 1965 when Lieutenant Colonel Elmer Shaner retired to St. Louis, Missouri. As a “brat”, Bob had lived at army posts across the United States and in Karlsruhe, Germany and Orleans, France

Following graduation from Hazelwood High School in 1967, Bob chose to enlist in the United States Navy in April 1968 to “see the world”. And better yet, the recruiter said “it wasn’t just a job…it was an adventure”. Having spent most of his life living on Army posts, Bob was intrigued by the sea, shorelines, ports, ships and naval traditions.
