We Lost an Old Friend & American Hero

TSGT Robert W. Garvey

We lost a friend of the museum and an American Hero on 10-DEC 2022.  Robert Wesley Garvey was 99 years old.  He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a B-24 Liberator waist gunner.  Bob’s plane was shot down on his 30th mission.  He parachuted safely, landed, and was immediately shot and captured attempting to evade the enemy.  Bob was a prisoner of war until late in the war when the Germans marched the prisoners into Allied lines and laid down their weapons and surrendered.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, 16-DEC 2022 at 2:30 PM at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery 2900 Sheridan Rd, St. Louis, Missouri.  There will be a memorial service on Saturday, December 17th at 11:00 AM Sunrise Church, 7116 Twin Chimneys Blvd in O’Fallon MO.

Rest in Peace, old friend.
